The Social Matchbox events are inherently social with strong networking and certainly robust visibility for those startups selected. I have found these events provide great access to folks wanting to bring ideas to fruition here in the area. And their site describes it nicely too:
It is DC’s longest running open mic night and networking event for startup companies that are bootstrapping, investor backed as well as those who aspire to join their ranks.
On Thursday, August 20th, a first will occur for the networking series: it will be hosted at DC’s E Street Theatre. It’s a fun, creative venue that naturally evokes a sense of community, a dominant focus for the Social Matchbox team.
