Will Google+ Be Your Next Shiny New Failure?

Big Shiny Boules If you haven’t heard about Google+, wait 10 minutes. Everyone won’t shut up is talking about it.

Google+, according to Google, is Google’s attempt to “bring the nuance and richness of real-life sharing to software.” You can take the Google+ project tour here, and, if you’re lucky, snag an invitation.

Like many other people whose careers are in or neighboring the world of technology, I was reluctant to join, remembering the failures of Buzz and Wave. And from the title, you might think I’m sounding alarm bells.

Far from it.

Actually, I’m not claiming that Google+ will fail. From what I’ve seen so far, I doubt it.

However, I believe it’s too early to know for sure, especially since what Google’s plans with this project are vague so far.

…or could it be something else entirely?

We don’t know yet. (Except that last one is obviously a joke. Couldn’t resist.) Even if we did, how can we measure its success based on a few weeks of use? Haven’t we made that mistake before?
