Judging by the amount of audience questions we weren’t able to get to, we’ll have to have Amy Vernon and Alessandra Lariu back to talk to us again about expanding speaking opportunities as soon as possible. After a slow start due to technology issues, we engaged in quite a bit of thought-provoking conversations. If you weren’t there, here’s are some highlights of what you missed at our most recent Twitter chat.
The first example was a little bit of a “you had to be there” type of moment, but here’s the short version.
We invited Allesandra, because the company she co-founded, SheSays, created a tool to help conferences find accomplished women speakers for events.
When Ale told us the name of the SheSays widget it created quite an uproar, and has become an inside joke among the attendees.

We may have to do a whole separate post with video for how to use the widget and why you should share it on your sidebar in the meantime, give the SheSays Find a Token Woman widget a try. The name may be a joke, but the mission is serious: a list of crowd-vetted women speakers.
Amy Vernon was also extremely helpful, as usual when she joins us for Twitter chats.
Here’s her most popular tweet, as part of her response to the question “Why do you think it’s important for the people we see speaking at biz & tech conferences to be representative of the audience? “.
A1. In addition, when the people @ the podium are all one gender, one race, it gives a false sense of who/what that industry is. #wgbiz

Attend the Next Women Grow Business Chat, Live
Will we have as much fun at this next chat as we did at the last one? The only way to find out is to be there.
Every second Monday of the month at noon, the Women Grow Business community has a Twitter chat. We usually have a guest expert, announced on our blog prior to the chat. You can subscribe to our blog, our Facebook or Twitter page using the links in the upper right corner of the page, to get the announcement of our next guest delivered to you.
To be get an email reminder of when the chat is approaching, you can also sign up for free on our Eventbrite page. I’ve entered the date for all the chats to come, if you’d just like to mark your calendar.
Not sure what to do in a Twitter chat? We’ve got that covered too. By far the easiest way to follow it, if you’re not familiar with Twitter, is to go to our #wgbiz Twitter chat room on Tweetchat at noon on the second Monday of the month. It’s that easy – just launch that page at noon on the date in question.
But participating is even more fun!
